WISE, Va. – UVA Wise and Charleston defeated Cedarville to open a weekend round robin at Bill Gatton Field.
The host Cavaliers roughed up the Jackets, 9-0 in the first contest that was halted in the fifth inning by the eight-run mercy rule.
The only hit for CU was a two-out double in the third inning by
Ella Leonard.
In the nightcap, Charleston pulled away in the final innings for an 8-5 victory.
The Lady Jackets' offense showed some life by rapping out ten hits including five for extra bases.
Brynley Rung belted a two-run homer and stroked a double while
Anna Gorshak went 3-for-4 with a double.
Anna Gardner had two hits featuring a double and
Lindsey Linker added a double.
The two teams will play one another again on Saturday to close out the weekend.
