CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Evan Thayer graduated as one of the Yellow Jackets' more accomplished distance runners and his NCCAA indoor meet record performance in the mile run made headlines. That effort along with several others place him No. 4 on Cedarville's Top 10 in '11-12.
The NCCAA Indoor Championship returned to the Doden Field House on Feb. 18, 2012 with Thayer entered as the defending champion and three-time All-American in the mile. He successfully defended his title with authority in 4:12.65 which erased the previous meet record.
Thayer, a senior from Naperville, Ill., was the cross country squad's #1 runner in every meet in 2011 and was an NCCAA All-American after placing third in the national meet. He guided the team to a runner-up finish.
Thayer earned the prestigious NCCAA Wheeler Award in cross country and earned a spot on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division II Track & Field/Cross Country First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). For his efforts throughout the 2011-12 academic year, he was chosen Cedarville University's Male Athlete of the Year.
