Jackets win CU invite; four qualify for NAIA

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville opened the indoor season by winning its own invitational in the Doden Field House with four athletes already hitting the NAIA automatic qualifying standard in their respective event.

The Yellow Jackets piled up 231.5 points to outscore seven other schools. Wilmington totaled 164.5 points while Indianapolis had 80.

Defending NAIA indoor 3,000 meter race walk champion Josh Wiseman led a trio of CU walkers with a winning time of 12.45.79. He easily met the NAIA qualifying mark of 16:00 and was just six seconds shy of his school record.

Paul Ikeda was 4th in 14:28.07 and Grant Bacon was 9th in 15:52.17. Both earned spots in the national meet in March.

Justin Hoffman was the runner-up in the 55 meter hurdles in 7.65 seconds. His mark was under the NAIA automatic mark of 7.79 needed to advance to the 60 meter hurdles at the NAIA Indoor Championship. Hoffman was an NAIA Outdoor All-American in the 110 meter hurdles last year as a freshman.

Three other Yellow Jackets won individual events. The trio consisted of Michael Beight in the 400 meters (52.32), Ethan Blagg in the 600 (1:24.35), and Evan Thayer in the 800 (2:00.69). Beight, Hoffman, Sammy Starr, and Eli Husfelt teamed up to win the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:32.61. [COMPLETE RESULTS]
