CLERMONT, Fla. - It was a tough day all over for Cedarville softball at the NTC Spring Games as the Lady Jackets dropped a single game to Alma and a chilly late-night doubleheader to Michigan-Dearborn.
Alma drilled CU 14-6 in the opener which was halted after five innings by the 8-run mercy rule. The Scots jumped out to a 9-2 lead after two innings and were the recipients of 10 unearned runs by the Lady Jacket defense.
Seven different Cedarville players came up with hits. Emily Young had a two-run double and Meghan Creech provided an RBI double. [ALMA BOXSCORE]
The twinbill versus Michigan-Dearborn was delayed by rain to a 9:00 p.m. first pitch and the Wolves coupled with the unseasonably cold weather made life miserable for CU. UMD rallied for four runs in the top of the 7th inning to steal game one, 5-3, and then polished off the sweep with an 11-3 decision.
The Jackets looked to be in good shape of the opener after scoring three runs in the 6th for a 3-1 lead before falling. Cedarville produced just four hits, one of which was a two-run double by Young. Paige Stewart also doubled. [UMD GAME 1 BOXSCORE]
Michigan-Dearborn never trailed in the nightcap which was eventually halted by the mercy rule. Again, the Lady Jackets came up with only four hits. Christina Zorn was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Kenleigh Ludlow registered an RBI triple. [UMD GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
