CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets had four NAIA automatic qualifiers, three individual champions, and one school record to highlight a runner-up finish in the Cedarville Collegiate Open.
The biggest group of qualifiers came in the 5,000 meter race walk where a trio of CU athletes met the mark. Two-time NAIA Outdoor All-American Josh Wiseman won the event in 22:21.21. He'll be joined at the national meet in May by Paul Ikeda, who was 8th in 26:20.43, and Grant Bacon, who was 9th in 26:25.16.
Justin Hoffman lowered his qualifying mark in the 110 meter hurdles with a school-record time of 14.23 seconds. Sammy Starr won the 400 meter dash in 49.73.
Evan Thayer was the runner-up in the 800 meters in 1:54.53. Greg Hannay placed 2nd in the javelin with a toss of 173-feet even and Jordan Molstre was 3rd at 169-4.
Other 3rd-place showings came from Hoffman in the 200 meter dash (22.48), Brandon Tress in the 400 meter hurdles (55.31), and Mark Farris in the 100 meter dash (11.11).
Tiffin won the 15-team meet with 159 points while the Yellow Jackets tallied 114. Ohio Wesleyan was 3rd with 109 points and Heidelberg was 4th with 102.
