CU rally gains split with Malone

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Lady Jackets scored three times in the 6th inning to edge Malone, 6-5, in the second game of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader. The Pioneers ended CU's seven-game winning streak in the opener, 6-3.

It was not looking good for the hosts after the first two batters were retired in the bottom of the 6th inning and trailing 5-3. Kayla Thornsberry started the rally with a single into the hole at shortstop. Deanne Heffernan pinch ran and moved to third on successive singles by Michelle McQueen and Kendra Kassonie.

Christina Zorn was hit by a pitch forcing in a run to cut the deficit to one. Paige Stewart ripped a two-run single to right center to give Cedarville a 6-5 lead.

Malone stranded the tying run at second base in the 7th. Thornsberry was the winning pitcher for her fifth victory of the season.

Jenna Fox was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI's, and a run scored. Kassonie finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base for the Jackets, 19-22 overall and 6-6 AMC. Malone is 7-13 and 7-5 AMC. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

The Pioneers halted Cedarville's seven-game winning streak in the first contest. Malone scored five times in the 4th inning to break a scoreless tie.

Zorn was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Stewart also doubled in a run. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]
