CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Indiana Wesleyan used a four-run inning to take the lead for good and then held on to nip the Lady Jackets, 7-6, in the NCCAA Midwest Region championship game.
The #1 seeded Wildcats had all they could handle from a young Cedarville squad that boasted six freshmen in the starting line-up who took an early lead.
The Lady Jackets entered the day having to win two games from IWU in the double-elimination format and they were playing as the visitor on their home field. Kendra Kassonie opened the contest with a walk and scored on a two-out double by Jenna Fox. She came across for a 2-0 lead when Emily Young's grounder was thrown away for an error.
Indiana Wesleyan, 29-12 overall, got a run back in its first at bat and then came up big in the 3rd inning. The Wildcats sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs, two of which were unearned.
Cedarville didn't go quietly. After the two teams each scored twice in the 4th inning, the Jackets loaded the bases with no one out in the 5th. They tallied two runs to account for the 7-6 final, but left two runners on base.
