Jackets, Cavs swap one-run affairs

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville rallied for an 8-7 American Mideast Conference win over visiting Walsh, but then came up short in the nightcap, 3-2.

In the opener, Dan Petke's two-out, two-run single in the sixth inning capped a comeback from a 6-2 deficit. The Yellow Jackets gave away six unearned runs in falling into a big hole before rebounding with back-to-back three-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

Tyler Rost went 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI's. Petke was 2-for-4 with three RBI's, Michael Roe tallied two hits with a double and an RBI, and Rob Nesteroff supplied two hits including a triple, a stolen base, and two runs scored.

Winning pitcher #T.J. Taylor#, 5-2, allowed just one earned run in 6 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. Roe struck out the only batter he faced on a called third strike to end the game for his first save.

Cedarville, 27-11 overall and 7-5 AMC, could not get the key hit in the second game. The Jackets only had five hits, but failed to take advantage of seven walks issued by Cavalier pitchers.

Nate Davenport notched his 22nd double of the season and had a sacrifice fly for the game's first run. Nesteroff and Petke also doubled.

Freshmen righthander David Ledbetter, 4-1, absorbed his first setback. He tossed a complete game allowing just six singles and striking out nine.
