Yellow Jackets head to final day in playoff race

GREEN TREE, Pa. - Michael Roe handcuffed NAIA #25 Point Park on three hits as the Yellow Jackets won, 4-1, in the second game of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader to remain alive for a playoff spot. The Pioneers took the first game, 9-2.

Only three teams qualify for the AMC Tournament. Cedarville is the odd team out heading into the final day of the regular season when they host PPU on Senior Day unless they can sweep the Pioneers.

The Yellow Jackets, 30-14 overall and 10-8 AMC, produced all the offense that Roe needed in the first inning by scoring two runs. Point Park got its only tally in the fourth, but CU tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Roe allowed one earned run on three singles. He struck out four batters and improved his record to 6-2.

Five of Cedarville's 11 hits were doubles. David Ledbetter was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Alex Beelen contributed two hits including a double and Andrew York added two hits.

Point Park, 34-11 and 12-6 AMC, owned the first game after scoring three times in the first inning. The Pioneers benefitted from eight walks, five wild pitches, and two hit batters.

Tyler Rost finished 3-for-4 with a double. Rob Nesteroff and Dan Petke tallied two hits apiece.

The 30 wins is only the second time that the Yellow Jackets have ever reached that plateau in a season. The school record is 32 victories set in 2009. Cedarville also guaranteed itself of at least a .500 conference record for the first time since 1990.
