VANCOUVER, Wash. - Katie Gillespie and Lydia Wong picked up All-America honors and the Lady Jackets garnered another Top 10 finish at the NAIA Women's Cross Country Championship.
Gillespie finished off a stellar freshman season by placing 6th out of 330 competitors with a time of 18:12. Wong earned All-America recognition for the third straight time with an 18th-place effort in 18:37. The top 30 runners are All-Americans.
Carolyn Case was 42nd in 19:16. The rest of the line-up included Neola Putnam (123rd; 20:03), Rachel Wong (125th; 20:04), Sarah Stevens (245th; 21:02), and Hannah Lamos (253rd; 21:12).
Cedarville came into the meet ranked 7th in the country and was able to move up one spot with 224 points. It's the 10th consecutive year the Lady Jackets have finished in the Top 10.
Cal State San Marcos won its first national title with 137 points for a three-point victory. The rest of the top five included Biola (Calif.), 140; Malone, 163; Simon Fraser (B.C.), 195; and Azusa Pacific (Calif.), 199.
Lydia Wong repeated as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. The group recognizes juniors and seniors, who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
The day also marked the final meet for head coach Elvin King. He completed 41 years of coaching at Cedarville and 31 straight with the women's cross country team since beginning the program in 1979.
