ATLANTA, Ga. - NAIA All-America hurdler Justin Hoffman met the national meet automatic qualifying standard in two events as Cedarville kicked off the outdoor schedule at the Emory Invitational.
Hoffman won the 400 meter hurdles in 52.79 seconds for his first qualifying time. He also won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.06, but it was his 14.61 effort in the prelims that was also an auto mark.
Hoffman joined Michael Beight, Brandon Tress, and Sammy Starr to win the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:18.30. Beight grabbed CU's other victory with a winning time of 49.08 seconds in the 400 meter dash.
The Jackets had four runner-up performances including Greg Hannay in the javelin with a toss of 181-feet 3-inches. The others were Chris Vaughn in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:52.06), #T.J. Badertscher# in the 10,000 meters (32:03.51), and the 4 x 800 meter relay unit of Evan Thayer, Jordan Davies, Joe Carter, and Neil Klinger (7:56.23).
Host Emory won the 13-team meet with 148 points. Hope finished as the runner-up with 134.5 points and Cedarville was 3rd with 130.
